Sami Mansfield Founder

Sami has diverse experience in both community and hospital based cancer centers, non-profit organizations to help patients live better healthier lives. She sits on advisory boards, planning committees and organizations including MetaCancer, Young Survival Coalition, Barbells for Boobs, the Kirmeyer Exercise as Medicine Fitness Center, and the Johnson County Health Plan. She is a Crossfit® Level 1 coach as well as a certified Cancer Trainer with extensive exercise and nutrician experience.

Sami is an experienced speaker and shares her experience and knowledge for healthcare organizations including the Association of Community Cancer Centers, Susan G Komen, several city Chambers of Commerce, young professional organizations and political groups. She is a sought after speaker who has delivered over 100 presentations to cancer support organizations to cancer survivors and medical professionals with her unique approach to cancer exercise for survivorship.

Sami has collaborated to publish cancer research on topics such as survivor energy balance, fatigue, and exercise and lymphedema as well as her current work in blood and marrow transplant.

 

Sadie Engelken - Exercise Physiologist

Sadie received her B.A. degrees from Simpson College in Exercise Science and Music, and her M.S. degree from Carroll University in Clinical Exercise Physiology. She is an ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist with the credential Exercise is Medicine. Sadie is also a Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist.

Sadie’s clinical focus has provided her opportunities to work in a variety of settings across diverse clinical populations. She completed clinical internships at Mary Greeley Medical Center Cardiac Rehab, The University of Northern Colorado Cancer Rehabilitation Institute, and the Duke Diet and Fitness Center. Additional experiences included VA Hospital exercise programs, the Duke Adult Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic, and several hospital-partnered, medically integrated gyms.

Working as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist, Sadie enjoys finding unique, enjoyable ways for patients to exercise with the goal of meeting exercise guidelines. She likes to come from the approach that there are exercise options for everyone we just have to figure out what that is.

Sarah Saulsberry -Physical Therapist MPT, COMT

Sarah graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2006 with her Master’s in physical therapy.  She has practiced in inpatient rehabilitation and home health care with the majority of time spent in outpatient therapy.  Sarah has specialized in the area of orthopedics and manual therapy in the physical therapy clinic.  She enjoys problem solving with patients to help them reach their goals-no matter how big or small. 

Sarah’s passion in oncology is being an encouraging resource for patients to keep active and keep fighting.  She strives to help each patient find a way to incorporate activity into their life to improve quality of life in all stages of cancer treatment and survivorship.  Sarah has developed a functional physical assessment for wellness patients to develop a baseline and measure physical changes in patients and is developing a wellness program for the head and neck cancer population to improve patient outcomes both during and after treatment. 

 Sarah is proud to call Kansas City her home and lives with her husband and two small children.  She stays active by chasing her kids, hiking and doing yoga. 

 

Jerry CEO

Jerry manages the day to day business and consulting side of Cancer Wellness for Life. He has over 20 years executive experience in healthcare technology ranging from new software development to sales and marketing and leadership. Jerry and his team help our clients on the business and technical needs with items such as CRM implementation, sales enablement, email and digital marketing and business strategy. Some of his experience include UHC, Optum, Anthem, BCBS of MN, HCA and others.

Jerry is a Crossfit® Level 1 coach and leads our WeBuild for Life program, allowing other gyms and organizations roll out our Build program for survivors in other communities.
